Ingredients
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tablespoon baking powder
- 1 tablespoon sugar
- ½ teaspoon salt
- ½ cup (1 stick) cold butter, cubed
- ¾ cup cold milk (or buttermilk for extra softness)
- 1 tablespoon melted butter (for brushing)
Instructions
1. Preheat
- Preheat your oven to 220°C (425°F).
- Line a baking tray with parchment paper.
2. Mix Dry Ingredients
- In a large bowl, whisk together:
flour, baking powder, sugar, and salt.
3. Add Cold Butter
- Add the cold cubed butter to the bowl.
- Using your fingers or a pastry cutter, rub the butter into the flour until it looks like crumbly sand with small butter pieces.
This step gives the biscuits their flaky texture.
4. Add Milk
- Pour in the cold milk.
- Mix gently until the dough comes together.
(Do NOT overmix — this keeps biscuits soft.)
5. Shape the Dough
- Sprinkle a little flour on your counter.
- Place the dough on it and gently flatten it with your hands.
- Fold it over 3–4 times for extra layers.
- Pat the dough to about 1-inch thickness.
6. Cut Biscuits
- Use a round cutter or a glass to cut out biscuits.
- Place them on the tray, touching each other slightly (helps them rise better).
7. Bake
- Bake for 12–15 minutes, until golden brown on top.
8. Brush with Butter
- Immediately brush the hot biscuits with melted butter for the perfect finish.
