PART 2 — THE MOMENT EVERYONE IN THE ROOM FROZE
Emily’s fingers twitched.
Daniel stared at them, afraid to breathe.
“Emily?”
Nothing.
Then her fingers moved again.
This time, clearly.
Daniel immediately pressed the emergency button.
Within seconds, two nurses rushed into Room 312.
“What happened?”
“I—I don’t know,” Daniel stammered. “She moved her hand.”
One nurse checked the monitors.
Another leaned over Emily.
Then the heart monitor suddenly changed.
Beep.
Beep.
Beep.
The rhythm had become stronger.
Everyone stood completely still.
“Her oxygen levels are changing,” one nurse whispered.
The doctor was called immediately.
Within minutes, Room 312 was filled with medical staff.
Daniel was pushed toward the doorway.
“Please,” he said. “She moved.”
“We know,” the doctor replied. “We’re seeing it.”
But nobody could explain why.
Lily remained beside the bed.
She looked frightened now.
Daniel crouched beside her.
“You did something incredible.”
Lily shook her head.
“No.”
She pointed toward Emily’s stomach.
“The baby did.”
Daniel looked at her strangely.
“What do you mean?”
Lily’s eyes filled with tears.
“My grandma told me babies can hear their mothers even when mothers can’t wake up.”
Before Daniel could respond…
Emily’s eyelids moved.
The doctor suddenly shouted:
“Everyone back!”
Emily’s eyes slowly opened.
For the first time in eight months…
She was awake.
Daniel covered his mouth.
“Emily?”
Her eyes moved slowly around the room.
Then she looked directly at him.
Her lips barely moved.
“Daniel…”
He burst into tears.
“I’m here.”
Emily tried to speak again.
“My baby…”
Daniel grabbed her hand.
“The baby is okay.”
But Emily suddenly looked terrified.
“Where is…”
She stopped.
Her breathing became rapid.
The doctor leaned closer.
“Emily, you’re safe. Take it slowly.”
Emily stared at Lily.
Then at the soil covering her belly.
Her expression changed.
“Who…”
“Who brought that?”
Lily raised her hand.
“I did.”
Emily’s eyes widened.
Then she whispered something nobody expected.
“I’ve seen her before.”
Daniel froze.
“Seen who?”
Emily pointed toward Lily.
“The little girl.”
Lily stepped backward.
“But I’ve never met you.”
Emily shook her head weakly.
“Not here.”
The room went silent.
“Where?” Daniel asked.
Emily closed her eyes for a moment.
“In my dreams.”
Daniel looked at the doctor.
The doctor simply stared back.
Emily continued.
“She kept coming to me.”
“She was standing beside a river.”
“She kept telling me…”
Her voice became weaker.
“Don’t be afraid.”
Lily’s face suddenly went pale.
“My grandma told me the same thing.”
Daniel looked between them.
“What is going on?”
Before anyone could answer, the baby’s monitor began alarming.
The doctors rushed toward Emily.
“Her contractions are starting.”
Daniel’s face went white.
“But she’s only eight months—”
“We have to move now.”
The medical team quickly prepared Emily for an emergency delivery.
Daniel stood helplessly outside the operating room.
Lily sat beside him, holding the empty glass jar.
For nearly an hour, neither of them spoke.
Then finally…
A baby’s cry echoed through the hallway.
Daniel stood up so quickly his chair fell backward.
A nurse opened the door.
“Mr. Carter?”
Daniel rushed forward.
“Your son is alive and breathing.”
Daniel began crying.
“Can I see my wife?”
The nurse hesitated.
“She asked for you.”
He entered the room.
Emily looked exhausted.
But she was awake.
Her newborn son rested beside her.
Daniel kissed her forehead.
“You came back.”
Emily smiled weakly.
“I heard him.”
“Who?”
“Our son.”
Daniel took her hand.
“What did you hear?”
Emily looked toward the window.
Then her smile disappeared.
“He wasn’t the only one calling me.”
Daniel’s face changed.
“What do you mean?”
Emily slowly turned toward Lily.
“The little girl wasn’t trying to wake me.”
“She was warning me.”
Lily stood frozen in the doorway.
Daniel stared at her.
“Warning you about what?”
Emily reached beneath her pillow.
There was something there.
A folded piece of paper.
Daniel opened it.
Only one sentence had been written on it:
**“When Emily wakes up, tell Daniel the truth about the night of the accident.”**
Daniel’s blood ran cold.
He had never told Emily the full truth about the accident.
Not once.
Emily looked directly into his eyes.
“You told me you weren’t there.”
Daniel couldn’t speak.
“You told me I was driving alone.”
He slowly lowered the paper.
Emily whispered:
“But I remember now.”
The room became completely silent.
Then she said the words that made Daniel’s entire face lose its color.
“You were driving that night.”
“And someone else was in the car.”
