Ingredients

For the Hamburger Steaks

  • 1 1/2 pounds ground beef
  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1 egg
  • 1 small onion, finely diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon paprika

For the Gravy

  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1 large onion, sliced
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

Step 1: Make the Patties

In a large bowl, combine ground beef, breadcrumbs, egg, diced onion, garlic, Worcestershire sauce, salt, pepper, and paprika.

Mix gently until combined. Form into 4 to 6 oval patties.

Step 2: Brown the Patties

Heat a skillet over medium-high heat. Cook patties for 4–5 minutes per side until browned. Remove and set aside.

Step 3: Cook the Onions

In the same skillet, melt butter. Add sliced onions and cook until soft and golden, about 8 minutes.

Step 4: Make the Gravy

Sprinkle flour over onions and stir for 1 minute.

Slowly whisk in beef broth. Add Worcestershire sauce and garlic powder. Simmer until thickened.

Step 5: Finish Cooking

Return patties to the skillet. Spoon gravy over top, cover, and simmer for 10–15 minutes until patties are fully cooked and juicy.
