Prep Time

  • Preparation Time: 20 minutes
  • Cooking Time: 45 minutes
  • Total Time: 1 hour 5 minutes

Equipment

  • 9×13-inch baking dish
  • Mixing bowls
  • Wooden spoon or spatula
  • Oven
  • Aluminum foil (for covering)

Ingredients (Base Casserole Example)

  • 2 cups cooked chicken or ground beef
  • 2 cups cooked pasta or rice
  • 1 can cream of mushroom soup (or cream of chicken)
  • 1 cup shredded cheese (cheddar or mozzarella)
  • 1 cup mixed vegetables (peas, carrots, corn)
  • ½ cup milk
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • Salt and black pepper to taste
  • Optional: breadcrumbs or crushed crackers for topping

Ingredient Notes

  • Protein: Use cooked chicken, turkey, beef, or even tuna for variation.
  • Vegetables: Fresh, frozen, or leftover veggies all work great.
  • Sauce: Any creamy soup base or homemade white sauce can be used.
  • Cheese: Sharp cheddar adds strong flavor; mozzarella gives a milder, melty texture.

Instructions

  1. Preheat the Oven:
Set your oven to 375°F (190°C). Lightly grease your baking dish.
  2. Prepare the Mixture:
In a large bowl, combine your protein, vegetables, cooked pasta or rice, soup, milk, butter, cheese, and seasonings. Stir until well mixed.
  3. Assemble the Casserole:
Pour the mixture into the prepared baking dish and spread evenly. Sprinkle breadcrumbs or extra cheese on top for a golden crust.
  4. Bake:
Cover with foil and bake for 25 minutes. Remove foil and bake another 15–20 minutes until bubbly and golden brown.
  5. Serve:
Let it rest for 5–10 minutes before serving. Enjoy warm!
