Ingredients

1 lb (450 g) ground beef or ground pork (or mix)

1 small onion, chopped

2–3 cloves garlic, minced

4 cups cabbage, chopped

1 cup uncooked rice

1 can (14–15 oz) diced tomatoes

4 cups beef broth
-
1 cup tomato sauce
-
1 tbsp paprika
-
1 tsp salt (adjust to taste)

½ tsp black pepper
-
1 tsp dried oregano or thyme

1–2 tbsp brown sugar (optional, balances acidity)

1 tbsp olive oil
Instructions

Brown the meat
Heat oil in a large pot. Add ground meat and cook until browned. Drain excess fat if needed. -
Add aromatics
Stir in onion and garlic. Cook for about 2–3 minutes until soft. -
Add vegetables & liquid
Add chopped cabbage, diced tomatoes, tomato sauce, broth, and spices. -
Add rice
Stir in uncooked rice and bring to a boil. -
Simmer
Reduce heat and simmer for 25–30 minutes, until rice and cabbage are tender. -
Adjust flavor
Taste and add salt, pepper, or brown sugar if needed.
