I Hated My Family: The Dark Promise That Shattered Feyi’s Blind Loyalty (Part 2)
Daniel looked at Ruth, his eyes filling with tears of absolute exhaustion, before turning his gaze back to Feyi. “I promised her that I would never let your mother use her as human collateral ever again, Feyi.”
Feyi froze, the anger she had carried all morning completely evaporating as a cold wave of dread washed over her. “Collateral? Daniel, what are you talking about? Ruth left Lagos because she said she wanted to live a quiet life in the village!”
“She lied to you to protect you, Feyi!” Daniel yelled, his voice cracking with emotion as he pulled a faded, legal folder from his leather bag and slammed it onto the table. “Look at the dates on these agreements! Three years ago, when your family’s import business was collapsing, your mother didn’t seek a bank loan. She approached Chief Olowookere.”
Feyi snatched up the documents, her eyes scanning the official signatures. Her breath caught in her throat as she recognized her mother’s elegant, looping handwriting. The contract explicitly stated that in exchange for a ₦15 million cash injection, Ruth’s future hand in marriage—and her share of their late father’s estate—would be completely transferred to Chief Olowookere’s family cartel.
Ruth had run away to the village not out of selfishness, but because it was the only way to stall the execution of the contract without destroying the family name. Daniel, a simple tech supervisor, had spent the last two years quietly working double shifts, funneling every single kobo of his savings to buy out the debt before the cartel could track Ruth down.
“Mummy told me Ruth was just a rebellious, ungrateful daughter,” Feyi whispered, tears finally spilling over her lashes as the crushing reality of her family’s deception clicked into place. “She made me hunt her down. She told me we were one bill away from losing everything because of Ruth.”
“Your mother used your grief as a weapon, Feyi,” Ruth said softly, stepping forward and gently placing her hand on her sister’s shaking shoulder. “She wanted you to find me so she could finalize the asset transfer and secure her own luxury retirement in Lekki.”
Before Feyi could even find the words to apologize, the quiet of the compound was shattered by the loud, aggressive rumble of an engine outside.
A sleek, black luxury SUV tore through the dirt drive, stopping directly in front of the porch. The doors flew open, and their mother, Mama Ngozi, stepped out draped in expensive lace and heavy gold jewelry, flanked by two stern-looking men in corporate suits.
“Feyi! Thank goodness you found her!” Mama Ngozi shouted triumphantly, marching up the steps with an arrogant, greedy smile. “Chief Olowookere’s legal team is waiting at the office! Grab her bags! We are leaving for Lagos immediately!”
Feyi stood up, stepping directly between her mother and Ruth. The frightened, obedient daughter who had left Lagos in tears was completely gone, replaced by a cold, burning rage.
“We aren’t going anywhere, Mummy,” Feyi said, her voice dropping like a heavy iron weight.
Mama Ngozi’s smile instantly vanished. “What did you say? Feyi, don’t be a foolish little girl! Do you have any idea how much this contract is worth?”
“I know exactly what it’s worth,” Feyi replied, pulling out her phone and pressing play on a live recording link. “And so does the Special Fraud Unit. Daniel didn’t just save money, Mummy. He used his tech hub to run a full forensic audit on your business accounts. He discovered you’ve been running a fraudulent corporate shell company using our late father’s estate credentials.”
Mama Ngozi went completely pale, her chest heaving in sheer panic as the corporate lawyers behind her immediately took a step back, realizing the massive legal trap they had just walked into.
“The contract is void, the Lekki estate has been frozen, and your free ride on our sacrifices is officially over,” Feyi whispered, looking her mother straight in the eye. “You wanted to trade my sister’s life for a check? Congratulations. Now you can enjoy your retirement at absolute zero.”
As the flashing lights of the local authorities began to reflect against the compound gates, Feyi turned her back on her mother’s desperate, weeping cries, finally holding her sister’s hand with an unshakeable, true loyalty.
