Potatoes: Yukon Gold or Russet potatoes create smooth mashed potatoes.
-
Beef broth: Adds deep flavor to the gravy.
Instructions
1. Prepare the Meatloaf
Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
In a large bowl, combine ground beef, breadcrumbs, egg, milk, onion, garlic, ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, salt, pepper, and Italian seasoning. Mix until well combined but do not overmix.
2. Shape and Bake
Transfer the mixture into a loaf pan or shape it into a loaf on a baking sheet.
In a small bowl, mix ketchup, brown sugar, and mustard, then spread the glaze evenly over the top of the meatloaf.
Bake for 50–60 minutes, or until fully cooked.
3. Make the Mashed Potatoes
While the meatloaf is baking, place the peeled potatoes in a pot of salted water and boil for 15–20 minutes until tender.
Drain the potatoes and mash them with butter, milk, salt, and pepper until smooth and creamy.
4. Prepare the Gravy
In a saucepan, melt butter over medium heat. Stir in the flour and cook for about 1 minute.
Gradually whisk in the beef broth and cook until the gravy thickens. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
5. Serve
Slice the meatloaf and serve with a generous scoop of mashed potatoes. Pour warm gravy over the top.
