🧾 Ingredients

  • 2½ cups all-purpose flour

  • 2¼ tsp active dry yeast (1 packet)

  • ½ cup warm water (110°F / 43°C)

  • ½ cup cold butter or shortening, cubed

  • 1 cup buttermilk (room temperature)

  1. Activate Yeast
    In a small bowl, dissolve yeast in warm water with a pinch of sugar.
    Let stand 5–10 minutes until foamy.

  2. Mix Dry Ingredients
    In a large bowl, whisk flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.

  3. Cut in Fat
    Cut cold butter or shortening into the flour mixture until it resembles coarse crumbs.

  4. Make Dough
    Add activated yeast and buttermilk to dry ingredients.
    Stir just until a soft dough forms.

  5. Roll & Cut
    Turn dough onto a floured surface.
    Gently roll to ¾-inch thickness.
    Cut with a biscuit cutter.

  6. Rise
    Place biscuits on a greased baking sheet.
    Cover and let rise for 1 hour.

  7. Bake
    Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C).
    Bake 12–15 minutes until golden.
