ITALIAN SAUSAGE WITH PEPPERS AND ONIONS

Juicy Italian sausages cooked with sweet bell peppers and caramelized onions in a savory garlic-herb sauce. Simple ingredients, big flavor, and always a hit—serve it on its own or tucked into a crusty roll.

🍳 Ingredients

  • 1½ lbs Italian sausage (mild or hot)

  • 2 tbsp olive oil

  • 2 large bell peppers (red, green, or yellow), sliced

  • 1 large onion, sliced

  • 3 cloves garlic, minced

  • ½ tsp dried oregano

  • ½ tsp dried basil (or Italian seasoning)

  • Salt & black pepper, to taste

  • ¼ cup chicken broth (optional, for juiciness)


👩‍🍳 Instructions

1️⃣ Brown the Sausage

  • Heat 1 tbsp olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat.

  • Brown sausages on all sides (6–8 minutes).

  • Remove and set aside.

2️⃣ Cook Peppers & Onions

  • Add remaining olive oil to skillet.

  • Sauté onions 5 minutes until soft.

  • Add peppers and cook 5–7 minutes until tender.

3️⃣ Add Garlic & Seasoning

  • Stir in garlic, oregano, basil, salt, and pepper.

  • Cook 30 seconds until fragrant.

4️⃣ Simmer

  • Return sausages to skillet.

  • Add chicken broth (if using).

  • Cover and simmer 10–12 minutes, until sausages are cooked through.

5️⃣ Serve

  • Slice sausages or serve whole with peppers and onions.
