Spicy Cabbage and Rice Fritters

These fritters are crunchy on the outside, tender inside, and packed with cabbage, rice, and warm spices. Great for using leftover rice!

🧾 Ingredients

  • 2 cups finely shredded cabbage

  • 1½ cups cooked rice (cooled)

  • 1 small onion, finely chopped

  • 2 green chilies, finely chopped (adjust to taste)

  • 2 tbsp chopped fresh cilantro

  • 1 tsp grated ginger

  • ½ tsp garlic paste

  • ½ tsp red chili powder

  • ½ tsp cumin powder

  • ¼ tsp turmeric

  • Salt to taste

  • 3–4 tbsp all-purpose flour or rice flour

  • 2 tbsp cornstarch

  • Water, as needed

  • Oil for shallow frying

1. Prepare the Mixture

  • In a large bowl, combine cabbage, rice, onion, chilies, cilantro, ginger, and garlic

  • Add chili powder, cumin, turmeric, and salt

  • Mix well

2. Bind

  • Add flour and cornstarch

  • Sprinkle in water a little at a time to form a thick, scoopable batter

3. Fry

  • Heat oil in a pan over medium heat

  • Drop spoonfuls of mixture into oil and flatten slightly

  • Fry 3–4 minutes per side until golden and crisp

4. Drain & Serve

  • Remove and drain on paper towels

  • Serve hot
