Spicy Cabbage and Rice Fritters

Crispy on the outside, tender on the inside, these Spicy Cabbage and Rice Fritters are a delicious, healthy snack or side dish. Packed with fiber-rich cabbage, cooked rice, and warming spices, they’re easy to make and perfect for breakfast, lunch, or a light dinner.


πŸ“ Ingredients (Serves 4)

  • 2 cups finely shredded cabbage

  • 1 cup cooked rice (preferably cooled)

  • 1 small onion, finely chopped

  • 2–3 green chilies, finely chopped (adjust to taste)

  • 1 tsp garlic paste

  • 1 tsp ginger paste

  • 1 tsp cumin powder

  • Β½ tsp turmeric powder

  • Β½ tsp chili powder

  • 1–2 tbsp chickpea flour (or all-purpose flour)

  • Salt to taste

  • 2–3 tbsp oil for frying

  • Fresh coriander leaves, chopped (optional)

  1. In a large bowl, combine shredded cabbage, cooked rice, onion, chilies, garlic, ginger, spices, and salt.

  2. Add flour gradually until the mixture holds together when pressed.

  3. Heat oil in a non-stick pan over medium heat.

  4. Shape the mixture into small patties or fritters.

  5. Fry each fritter for 2–3 minutes per side until golden brown and crispy.

  6. Remove and drain excess oil on paper towels.

  7. Garnish with fresh coriander if desired.

  • For extra crunch, chill the mixture for 15–20 minutes before frying.

  • Serve with yogurt, mint chutney, or tomato sauce.

  • You can add grated carrots or bell peppers for more color and flavor.

  • Make it gluten-free by using chickpea flour instead of all-purpose flour.
